Root Canals – Save Your Tooth with Whitten Dentistry & Spa
What is a Root Canal?
A root canal is a tiny passageway that branches off from beneath the top of the tooth, coursing its way vertically downward until it reaches the tip of the root. The pulp of the tooth runs through these canals. All teeth have between one and four root canals.
Why Might You Need a Root Canal?
Many tooth problems involve infections that spread to the pulp, the inner chamber of the tooth containing blood vessels, nerves, and other tissues. A traumatic injury to a tooth can also compromise the pulp, leading to similar issues.
Symptoms of a Diseased Inner Tooth
A diseased inner tooth can bring a host of problems, including:
- Pain and sensitivity
- Small pockets of pus (abscesses) due to a spreading infection
Root Canal Therapy
Root canal therapy is a remarkable treatment with a very high rate of success. It involves removing the diseased tissue, halting the spread of infection, and restoring the healthy portion of the tooth. This procedure is designed to save a problem tooth; before it was developed, the only alternative for treating a diseased tooth was extraction.
